NEW INFORMATION SUGGESTS THAT JONES MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABDUCTED

CARY, NC-- New information has led the Cary Police Department to question whether Larry Douglas Jones was actually abducted from the Parkway Convenience Center early Monday. Over the last 36 hours, investigators have uncovered several pieces of evidence suggesting that Jones may have intended to leave town at some point. While many of the details cannot be reported at this time, Cary Police reveal that many of Jones’ personal items are missing from his home, including clothing, numerous fishing rods, and many of his favorite hats.

"Our utmost concern continues to be Mr. Jones’ safety," said Lt. Steve Lee of the Cary Police. Lee pointed out that even if Jones had planned to leave the area, it is still possible that he was robbed and abducted before he could carry out his plans. "We can’t rest until we find him or hear from someone who has seen him."

The search for Jones continues all along the east coast as well as in Tennessee. Law enforcement agencies have been asked to be on the lookout for Jones and his 1992, blue and silver Chevrolet Blazer--license plate NC HYA 2627. Citing the need to preserve the integrity of the investigation and to protect Jones if he has been taken against his will, Lee declined to give specific details on the investigation at this time.

Cary officials became aware of Jones’ disappearance shortly after 6:00 AM Monday when a police officer on routine patrol pulled into the convenience store and noticed that Jones was not around. The officer notified Cary PD that she was investigating further and found no one in the unlocked store. An undisclosed amount of money was taken, and the store’s video surveillance tape was also missing.

Assisting Cary Police with the investigation are City/County Bureau of Investigation (CCBI), the NC Highway Patrol, Raleigh Police, and the Wake County Sheriff’s Department.

Anyone who sees Jones or his vehicle or has any idea of his possible whereabouts is asked to call Cary Police at 460-4636 or 469-4017. Motorists with cellphones are asked to call *HP for the Highway Patrol, or *CP for the Cary Police Department.
