CARY PARKWAY CONNECTION CONSTRUCTION SET TO BEGIN
CARY, NC -- Construction to complete the portion of Cary Parkway between Evans Road and High House Road is scheduled to begin this month. When completed in the summer of 2000, Cary Parkway should more effectively relieve congestion in northwestern Cary, especially on Maynard Road and Harrison Avenue. The $11 million project is being jointly funded by NCDOT ($4.7M), the Town of Cary ($3.2M), Silverton ($1.2M), Preston ($1.2M), and Weston ($250,000). NCDOT will serve as the contract administration, with S.T. Wooten as the contractor.
"In addition to providing a significant portion of the state roads funding, the Town of Cary worked hard to bring all the parties together to move the project forward," said Town Manager Bill Coleman. "The Town has been successful in these kinds of situations before, and we thought this project was well worth the effort."
The new portion of Cary Parkway will be about two miles long. It is designed as a four-lane, median-divided roadway with sidewalks along the east side. Major construction components include dual bridges over the railroad tracks and traffic signals at NC 54 and Evans Road where they intersect with Cary Parkway.
Because most of the project involves new construction, drivers should not be adversely affected by the road project.
