TOWN OF CARY RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE IN BUDGET PRESENTATION

CARY -- The Town of Cary has once again received national recognition for one of its most significant financial documents. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has issued Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the Town’s Budget Office.

"Accountability continues to be one of the most important values we stress at the Town of Cary," said Town Manager Bill Coleman. "Not only do we strive to make efficient use of every tax dollar, we also report that use in an effective and comprehensive manner."

The award is given by an impartial panel for actual documents produced by the Town’s Budget staff. To qualify for the recognition, the Budget had to meet national standards which assessed how well it functions as (1) a policy document, (2) a financial plan, (3) an operations plan, and (4) a communications device.

"Our staff works very hard to develop a document which accurately reflects not only the Town’s expenditures and revenues but also how these numbers translate into real programs, goals, and objectives that directly affect our community," said Cary Budget Director Christa Butler. The Budget, as well as most other documents, is available for public review at Town Hall during regular business hours.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving 12,650 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program was established in 1984 and is the only national awards program for governmental budgeting.
