Cary Officials Prepare for Bonnie Impact

CARY, NC -- At first light, it appears the residents of Cary, NC have been spared any real impact of Hurricane Bonnie. With the exception of a few fallen trees and downed power lines, there was no significant property damage or any personal injury reported. The Town of Cary is operating under regular schedule today, including solid waste and recycling collection.
Cary Citizens with any NON-EMERGENCY questions or those needing to report downed trees or other property damage not posing immediate threats to persons should continue to call the BONNIE HOTLINE at 469-4090. Only actual emergencies threatening life and health should be reported to 9-1-1. The HOTLINE, which has received about 275 calls, will be closed at the end of the regular work day today unless changing conditions warrant its continuation.
Comprehensive Bonnie information will remain available on the Towns website at <www.ci.cary.nc.us>.
Based on current Hurricane Bonnie predictions, there will be no other Bonnie updates issued from the Town of Cary.

CARY OFFICIALS TO RESPOND TO BONNIE THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT
CARY, NC -- With high winds and possible flooding expected this evening in the Triangle, Carys BONNIE HOTLINE will be staffed 24 hours a day until further notice. The HOTLINE number is 469-4090. Important information can also be accessed via the Towns website at <www.ci.cary.nc.us>.
Preparations on Carys EOC are complete, and the EOC is on standby in case activation is needed this evening. Many Town employees are on duty working 12 hour shifts, and other emergency personnel are on standby to handle Town issues on a 24-hour schedule as needed. Citizens are advised to complete ALL preparedness tasks immediately as Bonnie will likely remain a significant threat to the Triangle throughout the evening.

At press time, the HOTLINE had received more than 200 calls. Only actual emergencies threatening life and health should be reported to 9-1-1.
The next update from the Town of Cary will be issued around 9:00 AM Thursday unless changing conditions warrant further action.

PREPARE FOR BONNIE IMPACT
CARY, NC -- Officials with the Town of Cary are preparing for the high winds and possible flooding that may affect the area because of Hurricane Bonnie. The Towns Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is prepared if activation is needed later today, and personnel are on standby to handle Town issues on a 24-hour schedule. The Towns BONNIE HOTLINE is open at 469-4090, and Bonnie information will be available on the Towns website at <www.ci.cary.nc.us>. Town of Cary offices remain open and on regular schedule today.
Citizens are advised to complete ALL preparedness tasks immediately, including securing any loose outdoor items such as trash cans or lawn furniture. Bonnie is a dangerous storm with winds in the Triangle possibly gusting to hurricane force later today. Bonnies forward movement has slowed and strengthening could occur as Bonnie moves over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream.
