SUSPECT CAUGHT IN CARY ATTEMPTED BANK ROBBERY
CARY, NC -- The suspect in last weeks attempted robbery of a Cary bank is in custody after a tip led law enforcement to the North Carolina State Fair. Harry George Lyke was apprehended on Sunday afternoon following a tip by a fairgoer to the Wake County Sheriffs Department that Lyke was operating one of the rides at the Fair. Sheriffs officials went to the Fair, found Lyke, and took him into custody without incident. Lyke has been charged with one count of attempted common-law robbery and is in custody at the Wake County Detention Center. His first appearance is scheduled for this afternoon.
"We are very appreciative of everyones involvement in this case," said Lt. Steve Lee of Cary Polices Criminal Investigations Unit. "Having the media publicize this case so heavily clearly led to locating Lyke," he added.
Lyke was identified by Cary Police from surveillance video taken when Lyke attempted to rob the Kildaire Farm Road Branch, Banking, & Trust late Thursday afternoon. No money was taken, and no one was hurt in the incident.
