Cary Named NCAA Championship City

Cary is an official NCAA Championship City, tapped by the National Collegiate Athletics Association to host multiple NCAA Division I, II and III men’s and women’s championships through the year 2012.

We are one of only six communities nationwide selected by the NCAA as inaugural members of its Championship City pilot program. Others selected include Cleveland , Indianapolis , St. Louis , San Diego and San Antonio , Texas .

Our first class sports venues attract and are well suited for high profile sporting events.

As part of the program, Cary hosted the 2008 Division I Women’s College Cup at WakeMed Soccer Park in December. This year, we will host the Division I Men’s College Cup at WakeMed Soccer Park and the Division II Baseball Championship at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

      For more information, visit www.townofcary.org.

State of the Town

Mayor Harold Weinbrecht delivered his 2009 State of the Town address in January, answering your questions about Cary ’s financial position in the current economy, our ongoing environmental initiatives and the Town’s commitment to continued citizen involvement.

Cary is fortunate to begin 2009 as one of the most desirable places to live, even in the midst of a world-wide recession,” said Mayor Weinbrecht. “This year will be a critical time in Cary ’s history as we redefine our vision for the future, increase our emphasis on being environmentally friendly, and encourage more citizen involvement.”

In his address, the mayor encourages citizens to stay informed about what their government is doing by watching Cary Matters, a monthly program featuring members of Town Council discussing the issues that matter to you most. Watch it beginning the first day of each month on Cary TV 11 and on Cary ’s Web site.

Read the complete text of the 2009 State of the Town or watch video of the Mayor’s address at www.townofcary.org.

Recycling Rollout Carts Are Coming

This spring, we’re revamping our curbside recycling program by providing you with new 65-gallon rolling recycling carts, which have three times more space than your current bin.

Just like with our solid waste collection, we’ll be using automated trucks to pick up your recycling. Automated collection is the safest, most efficient, equitable and economical way for the Town to collect recycling.

For added efficiency, we’ll cut back on how often we pick up your recycling to every other week. The new schedule will be provided with your rollout cart.     The Cary Town Council approved the changes to our recycling program on May 8, 2008 .

For more information, visit www.townofcary.org. Additional details about the program will be provided in each BUD through June 2009.

Temporary Change at the Tap

Each year in March, the Town temporarily changes the water treatment process by suspending the use of ammonia. This is done to “clean” the system.

Customers who use kidney dialysis machines should be aware that water may contain chlorine, ammonia, or a mixture of the two from March 1 through March 31.

Our annual water disinfecting change is a state-mandated practice to ensure safe drinking water.

For more, visit Water Disinfection at www.townofcary.org.
