Public Information

Believing that government effectiveness, efficiency, and equity are strengthened with open communication, the Town of Cary established its Public Information program in 1997 to develop and direct a comprehensive communications effort by building and maintaining beneficial relationships between the Town of Cary and our many publics through appropriate, consistent, timely, complete, and accurate information sharing.

Public Information’s responsibilities include: media relations, research, Cary TV 11, advertising, graphic standards oversight, emergency public information, communications planning, Bud newsletter, cable television regulation, film/video/photography regulation, and the content for www.townofcary.org.

Cable TV Regulation

The Town oversees cable television service according to state law and Federal Communications Commission regulations. Because of an “effective competition” declaration by the FCC, the Town cannot regulate cable television rates or charges. Rate complaints should be filed with the FCC.

Town of Cary Provisions – The Town's Cable Communications Ordinance applies to cable companies in Cary that seek a local franchise agreement to operate within Cary’s corporate limits; companies may instead choose to seek a franchise agreement from the State of North Carolina.  Both Time Warner Cable and AT&T offer cable services in Cary under a State franchise agreement, with complaints being handled by the NC Attorney General's Office.

For more on cable TV issues, contact the public information officer in the Town Manager’s office at (919) 460-4951 or susan.moran@townofcary.org.

Speaker’s Bureau
The Town of Cary operates a Speakers Bureau which provides Town staff members as guest speakers to clubs and civic organizations. There is no charge for this service. Cary's Speakers Bureau is coordinated by the Public Information Officer in the Town Manager's Office. The Speakers Bureau program is currently being revised to offer a broader range of topics for address. To schedule a speaker, contact the Town's PIO at (919) 460-4951.
